Round 3 V Heidelburg GC at Gardiners Run
Green Acres loses 4-5
The last four years have seen this squad only lose a handful of matches, and the last 48 hours have been quite challenging. It’s normal to feel disappointed, frustrated, or even angry after losing, but as a squad, we must allow ourselves to experience these emotions without dwelling on them.
Heidelburg played well and deserved the win. Too many of us did not bring our best game, and we now find ourselves back in the pack with all the other challengers. This is a position we are used to, and I am sure the remaining matches will see us bounce back and bounce back hard. With so many teams now in contention, every contest will count, and it is imperative that we realise this and not just win but win well so we put a gap in the opposition. Up to 4 teams will likely finish with the same amount of wins, so it will come down to contests won to sort out the ladder positions.
Results this week were as follows:
- John Vidovic lost 2&1
- George Zhang lost 2 down
- Graham Harris lost 5&4
- Bryan Harper won 3&2
- Mike Wood lost 3&2
- Rob Mallard won 3&1
- Brian Wasley won 2&1
- Rodney Andersen won 2up.
- Paul Downey & Steve Pryor lost 2&1.
The next few weeks see the return of a couple of pennant legends, John Mansfield and Gary Seymour, along with the debut of Paul Thaw. These three gents will add a serious amount of match-play savvy and golf talent to our already strong team. It’s that time of the season when we need to rest players due to a peculiar rule that we can’t play each match.
Some notable performances against The Burg were Bryan Harper, Rodney Andersen and Robbie Mallard continuing their winning streak and Brian Wasley showing us what we all know he is capable of with a hard-fought win over his opponent.
Thank you to all the caddies and supporters who ventured out yonder to Gardiners Run. That support plays a significant role in our performance, and we all love having GA members follow us around as we compete.
Our next match is on Friday, 16 February, at The Heritage St Johns course at 1115 V Eastern Golf Club. We need to win, and we need to win well, so watch out for the fireworks as we bounce back and back hard!
I look forward to seeing you all at The Heritage.
