Following a stretch of bad weather in recent days, uncertainty lingered about whether the T.E. & E.J. Cox Plate would be played in unfavorable conditions. Fortunately, Melbourne’s weather turned around and improved, akin to a festive gathering or a Christmas buffet. This allowed participants in the afternoon shotgun to enjoy mild and pleasant playing conditions.
For some background, this Trophy Event was established in 2015 to acknowledge Terry & Joy’s extensive contributions and dedicated service to Green Acres, which has spanned over 50 years. Both Terry and Joy hold esteemed positions as stalwarts of the Club.
The perpetual trophy, generously donated by Peter and Jennifer French, saw Peter Hopper, a 50-year member, emerge as the inaugural winner in 2015.
In the end, there were 14 eligible competitors, all looking to have their names be the next to be engraved in the beautiful silver Cox Plate.
Congratulations to the 2023 Cox Plate winner, Carl Pockson, who blitzed the field with a sizzling score of 40 points.
