It was a glorious August morning, perfect for the final of the Men’s Founders Cup. The match featured John Hongmung and James Moorhead, and it was set to be an epic battle, with James receiving 13 shots from John. Both finalists gazed at the magnificent A.N. Alley Trophy with visible excitement before launching their tee shots down the first fairway.
John started his round in fine form, playing regulation golf for the first two holes and surging to a 2-up lead. However, James won the third hole with an unconventional par (net birdie), marking the beginning of his comeback. He went on to win the next two holes before John steadied himself, bringing the match back to all square as they approached the 7th hole.
As they crossed over, James was 1 up heading to the 10th tee, and the match was still anyone’s to win. However, James had other plans, winning the 10th, 11th, 12th, and 14th holes to close out the match 5 & 4.
The final was played in great spirits, with the finalists exchanging fist bumps for great shots and smiles all around.
Congratulations to the 2024 Men’s Founders Cup Champion, James Moorhead!
