The women’s 4BBB Knockout final was played today. It started slightly later to ensure the finalists and spectators had a chance to stay warm after a wintry blast swept through Melbourne over the past few days. The final was between Jennifer French and Brenda Carey and Marge Doidge and Lyn Henry.
The duo of Brenda and Jennifer started strong, with Brenda’s putter running hot, sinking multiple putts in a row to surge ahead with an early 3-up lead after six holes. Jennifer was pleased that her putter wasn’t required while Brenda’s was running so hot. Then their opponents pulled the momentum back, with Marge holing her putt from off the green—a “Gobbler”—to halve the 7th hole. The momentum shifted to Marge and Lyn, who managed to get it back to one down as they crossed over to the back nine in under two hours.
Both pairs drove the ball off the tee exceptionally well, and the rescheduled later tee time allowed the players and spectators for the final to be at the optimal time of day, which pleased everyone.
Brenda and Jennifer steadied the ship and played consistently on the back nine, stopping Marge and Lyn’s efforts to come back. Brenda’s second shot around the tree on the 16th landed on the green, all but securing the match as the pair won the hole with a net 4, winning the match 3&2.
Congratulations to the 2024 Jean Chambers 4BBB Knockout Champions, Brenda Carey and Jennifer French.
