The sun was shining on a chilly morning for the Women’s Foursomes Championship Finals! Nothing could wipe the smiles from the finalists as they embarked on holding up the coveted Audree Howard trophy.
Top seeds Deb Guilmartin and Vanessa Cariss competed in the A grade final against Anne Winter and Justine Grover. In the B grade final, Robin Dodd and Carol Coghlan took on Vivienne Cashmore and Chris Illingworth.
The golf started with a bang, with both teams playing exceptionally well early on. In the B grade match, Carol and Robin put their foot down and climbed to a 3-up lead at the turn. Following them, Deb and Vanessa showed their class to be 4-up heading to the 10th tee.
As we know in match play, anything can happen, especially on the back nine of a championship final. However, this wasn’t the case for the B-grade match, with Robin and Carol continuing their form on the front nine to have a commanding win on the 13th green. The final result was 6&5.
The A-grade was much the same, with Justine and Anne really making Deb and Vanessa earn their win. They eventually went down on the 15th 5&4.
Congratulations to Deb Guilmartin & Vanessa Cariss for taking out the A grade final, congratulations also to Robin Dodd & Carol Coghlan for winning the B grade final!
Commiserations to Anne, Justine, Vivienne, and Chris, who played so well; it just wasn’t their day.
