Round 4 V Eastern GC at The Heritage
Green Acres wins 6-3
The joys of senior golf see me penning this newsletter horizontally with a bad back. Such was the challenge of caddying around The Heritage last Friday!! What a great track and true test of one’s shot-making ability.
The hype around the selected team to take on Eastern was huge, and the need to bounce back after our loss to The Burg was paramount. And bounce back we did. The contest was down to the wire, and we required our number 1 & 2 players in John Vidovic and John Mansfield to dig deep over the concluding holes to secure victory.
Results this week were as follows:
- John Vidovic won 3&2
- John Mansfield won 3&2
- George Zhang won 2 up
- Graham Harris won 6&5
- Paul Thaw lost 6&4
- Gary Seymour won 5&3
- Mike Wood lost 3&2
- Bryan Harper lost 3&1
- Brian Wasley & Rob Mallard won 2&1
It was great to welcome John Mansfield back into the team, and he showed us all what a class act he is. Paul Thaw aka The God of Thunder played his first game, and no doubt will be better for the run, and we all look forward to him rediscovering his A game and adding some punch to our top order. Graham Harris epitomised the bounce-back ethos and won emphatically, whilst the star-studded 4-ball outfit in Wasa & RM had to fight hard for their well-earned victory. Mike Wood shot 4 birdies in his round but still came up short against a quality opponent. Bryan Harper very rarely loses, and Gary Seymour did what Gary Seymour always does – and that shows some grit and determination in taking down yet another opponent in his 60th-plus game of senior pennant.
Thank you to all the caddies and supporters who ventured out yet again to the Yarra Valley. A course like The Heritage is a caddie’s nightmare with its steep inclines and distance between holes. Your support plays a significant role in our performance, and we all love having GA members and fellow squad teammates Rodney Andersen and Cam MacSween follow us around as we compete.
Our next match is on Friday, 1 March, at Rosanna GC V Yering Meadows Golf Club. We tee off at noon. With 5 teams now vying for a coveted spot in the final, we again find ourselves needing to win, and we need to win well to build up our contests won column.
This Friday, we host the YCSP teams at Green Acres, so I would encourage you all to come down and observe these senior legends navigate their way around our great track. Our course truly shines alongside other Yarra Courses with its captivating layout, with each hole presenting a unique test, demanding strategic thinking and precise shot execution. I, for one, look forward to seeing how our peers in the YCSP measure up.
