Round 1 V Gardiners Run at Eastern Golf Club
Green Acres wins 8 – 1.
Isaiah 61 or maybe The Four Horsemen paid a visit to the Yarra Courses Senior Pennant clubs, with fire, floods and flies being the order of the day for our delayed yet much-anticipated start to season 2024. Happy New Year, everybody, and isn’t it great to be playing golf again?
We ventured out to Eastern and were fortunate to be the first group of people to experience their new temporary facilities. It was like being in the Bird Cage at Flemington with some wonderful structures in place whilst they undergo a 2-year rebuild of their clubhouse.
But let’s talk golf and, more specifically, the wonderful effort of our squad to come away with an 8-1 victory over a much-improved Gardiners Run. With much of our top order overseas, interstate or working, we fielded a new-look line-up which delivered a compelling victory. Highlights were Mike Wood playing his first game and winning, Cam McSween playing his second only game and winning, and John Vidovic at #1 playing some sensational golf to also win his contest. The results for the day were as follows:
- John Vidovic won 3&1
- George Zhang won 3&2
- Graeme Harris won 1 up
- Rob Mallard won 3&1
- Mike Wood won 3&2
- Brian Wasley lost 5&4
- Rodney Anderson won 4&3
- Cam MacSween won 1 up
- Pd & Steve Pryor won 2 up
Thank you to all the caddies and supporters who made the long trip out to Eastern. That support plays a significant role in our performance, and I, for one, know that we all love having GA members following us around as we compete.
Our next match is on Friday, 2 February, at Latrobe. We play The Heritage at noon, and a victory will set us up nicely for some payback in season 24. Anyone keen to join in the fun and come and caddy for us, please let the pro shop know, and you will be welcomed with open arms.
Let’s have fun playing pennant.
