Course Flood Update – 16th January 2024

Course flood update – Day 8

From the General Manager – Peter Busch

Dear Members

Work continues to get the course back fit for play, and I am pleased to report that all flood water has been removed from the course.

One of the worst affected areas, the 4th and 5th holes, finally had flood water and sludge removed as of today. These holes are the lowest points of the course, hence being the last to have water removed. Course staff spent a significant number of hours yesterday and today removing silt and sludge from both fairways and then hosing the worst of the areas by hand to ensure that all the silt had been removed. The following video gives great context to what the staff have been doing and, more importantly, the significance of the damage.

While the video and the photo above show how bad the damage was, the photos below show how the course has transformed in such a short space of time. These photos have been taken from the other end of the fairway near the 5th green. These photos are symbolic of how the entire course is recovering from the initial damage.

The course staff have done a fantastic job, and they have certainly gone above and beyond what would normally be expected of their day-to-day tasks. I would also like to thank the volunteers who assisted on Saturday and those listed to attend tomorrow. Your efforts with bunker work have been greatly appreciated, especially by the course staff.

Significant rain has been forecast for tomorrow; however, we are hopeful that this will not hamper our efforts in getting the course ready for play on Monday, 22 January.
