The Balding Golf Improvement Centre
Members may not have been aware; however, I am delighted to announce the naming of our golf simulators in honour of the Balding family, who bequeathed a significant amount of money to the club for the purpose of golf development, which in turn contributed to the building of the simulators in the golf centre.
The Balding Golf Improvement Centre was officially named last week.
The Balding family have been members of Green Acres for over 140 years combined. Beatrice (mother), Jock (son) and Judith (daughter) joined the club as far back as 1951. Jock and Judy were members for more than 60 years.
All handy golfers, especially Judith, who won the Women’s Championship a record 12 times, amassing a total of 26 Board/Trophy event wins over the years and represented the Club in the Women’s pennant for many years.
Jock, no slouch himself when it came to golf, represented Men’s Pennant for many years and won events such as W.H. Richardson, Foursomes Handicap, Captains Putter and Matchplay Champion. Jock was also runner-up in the Victorian Foursomes Championship, playing with partner Glenn Carboon (Green Acres Hall of Fame).
