Dear Members,
I am saddened to advise that our esteemed Foundation and Life Member, George Vickery, passed away last Saturday night. He was 95 years of age.
George joined the Club in 1948 and remained an active and passionate member for the next 75 years. Until a few years ago he was still a regular player and until just a couple of months ago, he was coming to the Club once or twice a week to catch up with his many friends. I spoke with him last week and he wished the Club and members well for the Club’s 75th Birthday celebration event last Friday which, unfortunately, he could not attend.
Saturday afternoon was a favourite time for George to come to the Club and wait for people to come in after their game, move from table to table, and catch up with the latest news. He made friends easily with both older and younger members and I am sure I speak for all members who knew him, when I say we will miss him very much.
We send our thoughts and best wishes to George’s wife Heather, sons Colin and Robert, daughter Alison and extended family.
